Siwen (Simon) Sun
siwsun21@bergen.org
Simon is a senior in AAST. He reveres the Math Team as a haven for personal and mathematical growth.
Math Team is a launchpad into mathematics, and he is grateful for the experiences and the community.
In his free time, Simon likes spending time outdoors, thinking about interesting math problems, and
teaching. He is excited to get to know the next generation of Math Team; if you have any questions,
interesting thoughts, or anything else you may want to share, he would love to hear about it – shoot
him an email!!!
Jongwon (Andy) Jung
jonjun21@bergen.org
Andy is a senior in AAST. He joined BCA math team in sixth grade and competition math from the fourth
grade. His favorite math team memories are working with his friends on math questions and travelling
on group math team trips. In his free time, he likes listening to music and playing card games. He
hopes everyone enjoys math team and improves through the journey!
Gregory Pylypovych
Lecturers
The Math Team lecturers are experienced members who are excited to share their passion with the rest of the Math Team.
Introduction to Algebra
Johnathan Wong
johwon21@bergen.org
Johnathan is a senior in ABF. He joined the BCA math team in seventh grade, and over
the years he’s made many friends that he still has to this day. His favorite memory
with the math team was a trip to Lehigh University, where everyone had fun with party
hats and playing cards. He’s also interested in business and finance. In his free
time, he likes to go biking, throw frisbees, and play computer games. He is excited
to meet the new members of the math team, and hopes that they will enjoy it as much as
he does!
Joonho Jung
joojun21@bergen.org
Joonho Jun is a senior in ABF. He joined the BCA math team in ninth grade and has made
friends going to math team meetings and trips. Besides math, Joonho is interested in computer
science and business and he likes to watch youtube or play computer games in his free time.
He is looking forward to a fun year at math team and he hopes everyone will enjoy math team
as much as he does!
Intermediate Algebra
Arrum (Autumn) Shin
arrshi22@bergen.org
Autumn is a junior in AAST. She has been involved in the BCA math team and math competitions since
elementary school, and more recently in summer math camps and programs. Her favorite math team
trips include the World Mathematics Team Championship in Seoul, South Korea, and the Harvard MIT
Math Tournament. In her free time, Autumn enjoys listening to music, coding, playing card games,
and playing tennis. She looks forward to meeting new members of the math team and making new
memories during this special year.
Erez Israeli Miller
ereisr22@bergen.org
Erez is a junior in AAST. He used to not be a fan of competition math, preferring more pure
and “pretty” forms, but after (through much encouragement from his friends) joining the BCA
math team in freshman year, he’s come to love the subject and community around it, especially
the awesome trips he gets to go on! His main interests are physics, math, and computer science,
but he also enjoys video games as well as writing and playing music. He hopes that the math
team community can bring many pure-math fans into competition math as it did for him!
Introduction to Combinatorics
David Wang
davwan22@bergen.org
David is a junior in AAST. He’s been involved with the BCA Math Team since middle school, and
is so grateful to be part of this highly engaging and exciting community. His favorite experiences
with the math team were at the World Math Team Championship, where he met people from all over the
world, and argued extensively about whether Chinese or Korean food was the best. David’s other
interests include debate, politics, history and music; when not at math team, David is involved in
BCA’s debate and Model UN clubs. However, David suffers from a chronic Youtube addiction, and also
struggles with narcissism, as he apparently only refers to himself in the third person. Nonetheless,
he hopes that you enjoy being in the BCA Math Team, and that it fosters the same appreciation for
problem solving it fostered in him.
Lance Bae
lanbae23@bergen.org
Lance is a sophomore in ATCS. Even though he’s only been with the BCA math team since his freshman
year, he’s already had a lot of fun and made some great memories, especially on trips—HMMT was
easily his favorite! Besides math, Lance’s interests lie in both classical and modern physics,
computer science (especially data analysis, competitive, and theoretical), music, baseball, and
taekwondo. He hopes everyone will enjoy math team as much as he does!
Intermediate Combinatorics
Alicia Zhang
alizha22@bergen.org
Alicia is a junior in AAST. She has been involved with the BCA Math Team since fifth grade
(which was where she met Yul!), and she has slowly gained an appreciation for competition
math since then. Her favorite math team memory would definitely be the trip to the World Math
Team Championships in Seoul, South Korea, where she formed stronger bonds with her fellow math
team members and ate lots and lots of good food—a truly unforgettable experience. When she’s
not doing math, she might be listening to/making music (her mediums are mainly voice and guitar),
cooking and baking different things to eat, fencing, or (most likely) sleeping. BCA Math Team has
become an irreplaceable part of her high school career, and she hopes that many will find their
place in it too :).
Yul Kim
yulkim22@bergen.org
Yul is a junior in AAST. She has been involved with the BCA Math Team (which was where she met Alicia!)
and competition math since fifth grade. She made unforgettable memories, mostly eating good food and
playing cards, with her fellow math team members (some of whom became her best friends) such as going to
Korea for the World Math Team Championships, Massachusetts for HMMT, and Pennsylvania for ARML. In her
free time, she likes to listen to music (she has millions of Spotify playlists), waste a lot of time on
her phone, or try to learn how to code. She believes that the BCA Math Team is one of the best communities
at BCA, and hopes that everyone will find their place in it!
Introduction to Geometry
Jessica Lee
jeslee21@bergen.org
Math can be cool. That's what years of competitive and non-school math have taught Jessica (AAST ‘21), who
has been with the team for as long as she can remember. She has attended competitions all over the world and
summer programs all across the country for one sole purpose: math. When she is not math-ing, you might find
Jessica playing soccer, throwing a frisbee, making YouTube videos, fiddling with cards, speed cubing, or eating
ice cream. For her, the BCA Math Team has been a community of the most amazing people she has ever met, and
her hope is that you are able to find your place among them too.
Vivian Tan
vivtan21@bergen.org
Vivian is a senior in AAST. She has been involved with the BCA Math Team and competition math since the fourth
grade, after participating in the 2012 JHMMC (she realizes how old that makes her seem). Her favorite memory
with the math team was their delicious and engaging trip to the World Math Team Championships in Seoul. In her
free time, Vivian loves to experiment with new recipes, learn Korean through kdramas, and golf with the small
(but talented!) BT girls golf team. Vivian is ecstatic to meet and teach the many new members of the math team
this year!
Intermediate Geometry
Anshul Guha
Lynn Jegal
lynjeg21@bergen.org
Lynn is a senior in AAST and has been involved in the BCA math team since middle school. A great memory from
the math team was when she learned the most complicated card game from fellow math-teamers in the bus on the
way to HMMT. In her free time, Lynn loves to participate in CTF competitions, listen to music, and create
digital art. Through this team, she was able to cultivate both her knowledge and confidence in her math skills,
and met many amazing, like-minded people. Her hope is that you are able to get as much from the math team as she did!
Introduction to Number Theory
David Du
davdu21@bergen.org
Hey! I’m a senior in ATCS. I’ve always thought that math was cool and always had fun learning and solving math
problems! I’ve been going to math team since eighth grade and it was the place that I found a lot of my closest
friends whom I can do and talk about math with. One of my favorite memories of math team was the trip we took
to Korea for the WMTC, next to the weekly donuts I always enjoyed (so sad that they are gone because we are virtual
now). In my free time I love cooking Korean food, playing tennis, and chilling out to some cool songs.
Laurence Lu
laulu21@bergen.org
Hi. I’m Laurence. I’m in AAST. In fact, I’m a senior. Math team has been the most worthwhile experience. For real —
one meets some of the best people here at BCA math team! Although only with the math team a short time, I encourage
all to join and explore the possibilities you’ll have here. In my free time (which is surprisingly pretty abundant at
BCA), you might catch me doing a whole League of things, here a bit of coding, reading, and maybe (on some tiny off-chance)
sleeping!
Intermediate Number Theory
Jaiden Shin
jaishi23@bergen.org
Jaiden is a sophomore in AAST. He has been involved with BCA math team since 6th grade. His favorite math team trips
include the World Mathematics Team Championship in Seoul, South Korea, and the HMMT. In his free time he enjoys compsci,
playing tennis, or (most likely) wasting time on Youtube.
